Most people want to make changes that benefit their bodies, homes and health but they don’t they can afford to make the changes.
Four years into this journey of eliminating toxins and I have been through many different financial seasons…college, small income, paying for a wedding, moving, two incomes, maternity leave – you name it! I am here to say that nontoxic living IS for every budget.
First, you have to prioritize what products you want to switch over. It doesn’t happen in one day (I mean, I guess you could!) and then find alternatives for those items. You could start with your makeup bag or your entire kitchen, it just depends on what you can afford.
Next, set your budget and one paycheck (or month) at a time, make the swaps. Chances are you already had a budget item for laundry detergent, toothpaste, deodorant. Instead of buying a brand that doesn’t value natural ingredients, swap to a different brand – or better yet, DIY it!
Affordable nontoxic brands I like:
- Lemongrass Spa
- Branch Basics
- Seventh Generation
- Burt’s Bees
- Tom’s of Maine
- Norwex
- Jason
- Hello
How toxin free has saved us money:
-I never buy candles, air fresheners, room sprays. Instead, we use diffusers that only require water and a few drops of essential oils. I also don’t buy cleaning wipes/sprays, toilet bowl cleaner, Windex, etc. I make my own toilet bowl cleaner and all purpose spray, and use microfiber clothes on glass and other surfaces.
-All my makeup is from Lemongrass Spa and it is all mineral makeup. Mineral makeup doesn’t cost more than name brand makeup but it does last longer so I’m not buying makeup as often.
Tell me, what’s one way you save money and eliminate toxins?
Hey Lexy! I have recently started using tooth powder that I purchased from Amazon that came in paper packaging. I store it in a nice little Mason jar and I swear my teeth are already a shade whiter! I plan on making homemade laundry scent booster with essential oils and kosher salt next. Keep up the nontoxic journey 😊
