Last week I left my corporate job. I have worked in marketing for 6 years and have loved it. Some people stumble into marketing but I knew from an early age that this is what I wanted to do. As I became a mother, I fell for the lie that I could do it all.
Why did I quit my job?
Believing the lie that I could do it all and be everything to everyone was starting to take a serious toll on my mental health. As I hit rock bottom of my energy and mental/emotional capacity, my husband and I knew we needed to make a change. After months and months of prayer, we felt God’s peace to make this drastic move for me to quit my job.
In every season of life, it’s important to keep in mind and name what matters. In this season of my life where I have a busy toddler paying someone else to watch her while I work a 9-5 doesn’t matter as much as spending my best hours a day with our daughter.
How could I afford to quit my corporate job?
One of the comments I’ve heard most often since announcing my resignation is “Wow, you’re giving up your salary? That’s cool that you found a way to make that work financially.” I want to believe that it’s been said with admiration but I would also believe there is some doubt mixed in there too.
I recognize that not every mom/parent is in a position where they can quit their jobs to stay at home but I also believe that we make room in the budget for what matters to us.
The neat thing is, I’m not not making money.

As a consultant with Lemongrass Spa, I don’t have to worry about sick days, if I’ll have enough PTO for the rest of the year after we go on vacation, or how I’m going to give my best to my family when my best 40 hours are spent elsewhere. I get to work whenever I want, wherever I want. If I want a raise, I give myself one but working a little more.
Having flexibility to work whenever I want to feels like a dream come true. That’s actually one of the reasons I joined my company when I was single. I knew someday I’d want to be a wife and mother and I would need something to call my own.
No, my Lemongrass paycheck hasn’t replaced my corporate one – yet. But I believe it can because I believe in the power of direct sales to help women (and men!) find financial freedom through flexible work.
I’ve realized this being a full time working mom + wife + running my business + all the other hats women wear: I can’t have it all. Instead, I get to choose what matters to me. And in this season that is being with my daughter, working for myself and I’m so thankful Lemongrass Spa allows me to do that.
